Inspirational Reading to Change Your Life

One of the joys of being on my summer holiday is the luxury of being able to indulge my passion for reading. Judging by the number of people I see absorbed in a book by the pool, I am not alone in this.

This year however I decided to do something different. I put aside my usual holiday reading mix of "30-something female lit", action thrillers and the classics (I always had an eclectic taste in reading, I'll read anything - even the cornflake packet if there is nothing else at hand). Instead I decided to read the self-development books that had been on my bookcase for some time. Do I regret my decision? Absolutely not, I was as hooked by these books as any page turning "whodunnit?".

Here are the books I read on my sunbed this summer, that I would like to share with you. Read on if you would like to add some inspirational material to your reading list. I have no doubt they will motivate you to kick start some changes to your life.

This is the story of a successful, well known lawyer whose out of balance life leads to an almost fatal heart attack. He quits his job and old lifestyle to embark on a spiritual journey which teaches him to live with greater passion, purpose and peace. Different self development techniques and theories are woven into the story in a very natural way. An enjoyable read on two levels; both for the story and the messages within. It would be enjoyed by those new to the world of self-development as well as those with more experience.

Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers

The sub-title of this book is "How to Turn Your Fear and Indecision into Confidence and Action". I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it has been enjoyed by millions around the world. Susan talks about different ways to tackle your fear or lack of confidence or whatever you choose to call it, that stops you from taking the action you want to take. In my opinion it should be a compulsory text in schools and colleges. The book is filled with examples, many from the author's own life, that illustrate just how effective her approach is. A must read.

The Confidence Plan by Sarah Litvinoff

Another book that tackles the issue of confidence (or lack of it) and how to address it, so as to get more out of life or improve the quality of your life. A different approach to that taken by Susan Jeffers "Feel the fear", yet equally instructive and usable. The book is broken down into her 10 step plan to increase your confidence. The Confidence Plan is full of real life examples (with lots of detail, which I loved) and exercises. To my mind a great companion to "Feel the fear".

Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen

Perfect for when you are in need of something with a high feel good factor. Chicken Soup is a collection of inspirational stories that celebrate all the best qualities we share as human beings. A great book to read on the beach as you can pick it up, read one or two stories and then go for another dip in the sea (feeling all warm and fuzzy towards your fellow man).

Losing my Virginity by Richard Branson

This is Richard Branson's own take on his life so far. It reveals his unique philosophy on commerce, success and life. His insights into his childhood help to explain how he became the man he did. With extracts from his ballooning adventure diaries and the story of the Virgin empire highs and lows, it really is a page turner. Recommended for anyone interested in business, what lies behind an entrepreneur and all those who grew up with the Virgin brand.

Things That You Should Understand About Thyroid Disorder

Millions of people in various parts of the world suffer from a thyroid disorder called Hypothyroidism. This problem happens when your thyroid is unable to produce the right amount of thyroid hormones.

How to Prepare a Charcoal Grill Fire

So you're planning on doing some grilling, huh? Well remember, it's all about the heat, and building your charcoal fire is more than just dumping in the charcoal and dousing them with lighter fluid. This may be how many people do it, but do it that way and you'll probably end up with burned burgers or raw chicken.

Even heat is the key to great grilling. The only time you should have any variation in heat is when you plan for it. If you evenly distribute the coals you can minimize any variation and get good, even grilling. This is very important when you are cooking a large amount of food on the grill. If you just dump your coals in randomly you will have hot and cool spots.

As a general rule of thumb, plan on using about 30 charcoal briquettes to cook 1 pound of meat. You want to make sure that you have enough briquettes to cover the grill's pan in a single layer and extending out about 2" beyond the area of the food on the grill. The first step is to place the briquettes in the grill's pan to determine the quantity and then stack them up in a rough pyramid shape to light. Soak the briquettes with approximately 1/2 cup of lighter fluid, and let set for a few minutes before lighting.

After the coals have begun to burn and ash starts to form (usually around 15-20 minutes), you will then need to arrange them with long handled tongs into a single layer keeping the coals tight together. This will provide you with an even, direct heating surface all ready to go for whatever meat you're in the mood for.

The indirect heating method is an alternative to cooking your food directly over the heating area. The simplest way to do this is to put all the coals on one side of the grill and no coals on the other side. On a gas grill this is equivalent to turning the burner on one side on and leaving the other off, but with a charcoal grill you can do even more than that. If you are using a kettle style grill, you can use a method know as "The Ring of Fire". All that is required for this method is to push the coals to the outside of the coal grate leaving the middle empty after the coals are hot. This gives you an even heat around the entire grill and a good indirect cooking space.

To add a little something extra to your food, you might want to consider using slow burning hardwood chips in your coal fire to infuse your meat with a smoky flavor. All you'll need to do is add a few pieces of the hardwood chips to your coals. To make things a little simpler, you could even pick up some charcoal briquettes that are manufactured with hardwood chips built right in.

What is a Female Orgasm?

Biodiesel Applications and Uses

Alternatively this fuel can also be blended in any proportion with diesel in the diesel engines of modern automobiles. However gaskets and hoses made with natural rubber as found in automobiles made up to the early nineties tend to be degraded more by biodiesel than by petro-diesel because of certain solvent properties of biodiesel. Modern engines however use FKM in place of rubber as it does not react with biodiesel. The transition from petro-diesel to biodiesel may be made gradually since the latter is often found to disintegrate the residual petro-diesel deposit on the fuel tanks resulting in clogging of the fuel filters. A blend of the two types of fuels in appropriate proportions should be resorted to before switching over fully to biodiesel to reduce this possibility. A better option while using biodiesel is to replace the fuel filters on the auto engines and heaters.

Availability

Applications and productions of biodiesel are rising in Europe, USA and Canada. It is being used in mixture with diesel in automobiles and the growing demand for this fuel has made it available in the fueling stations in the above countries. Petroleum diesel is although cheaper at present than biodiesel, perishable nature of the former cannot keep its cost down in the long term. While man cannot restore the gradually depleting oil reserve, more and more agricultural subsidies will be made available to encourage production of biodiesel ultimately bringing down its price.

Uses

The debate continues over which one is a better car fuel- petroleum diesel or biodiesel. Producers of petroleum driven by their vested interests try to establish that petroleum diesel is better for car engines. The producers of biodiesel claim that pure biodiesel in fact increases the life of the engine by reducing its wear and tear. This is supported by independent bodies also. Fuel stations sell biodiesel produced with standards set by the authorities regulating production and use of the fuel and the consumers are satisfied with performance of this fuel. However the higher cost still encourages the consumers to opt for the petroleum diesel fuel for their car engines or blending small proportion of biodiesel with the traditional oil. Use of less than 5% of biodiesel in the blend was initially advised by car dealers like Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler in the USA to secure lives of their car engines but the recommendation has since gone up to 20%. Even 2% addition of biodiesel in the mixture reduces the viscosity of petroleum diesel and increases the lubricity of the mixed fuel. The standard proportion of biodiesel now followed most widely is 5%. World's first biodiesel train by Richard Branson, the famous British businessman, was run on 20% biodiesel. Branson's first commercial aircraft to run on biodiesel in February, 2008 signaled the important role this fuel is going to play in future aviation.
